If Mindfulness Is Your New Years Resolution: A Bulletproof Guide To Keeping Your Practice Strong

If Mindfulness Is Your New Years Resolution: A Bulletproof Guide To Keeping Your Practice Strong

If Mindfulness is Your New Years Resolution: A Bulletproof Guide to Keeping Your Practice Strong from the Spirit & Soul Blog

It’s resolution season! A personal favorite season of mine is the New Year’s season, and I am here to help this year if one of your goals/resolutions is to begin a Mindfulness practice. I’ve created a bulletproof reference guide for starting your practice with exploration and keeping your practice strong in the long run with a few powerful (and personal favorite) tools! With helpful knowledge packed books that aren’t overwhelming in the slightest, easy to use apps to explore what you want your practice to consist of and feel like, and a simple list of important principles to remember when testing the waters and beginning to grow your practice.

Look into these books ~

-Miracles Now, Gabrielle Bernstein

“Let’s be real for a sec. Most of us don’t have time for an hour of yoga or 30 minutes of meditation every day. We’re overwhelmed as it is. Our spiritual practice shouldn’t add to that.

That’s why I’ve handpicked 108 simple techniques to combat our most common problems—stress, burnout, frustration, jealousy, resentment. The stuff we have to deal with on a daily basis. This book is designed so that you can achieve peace and experience miracles now.

Inspired by some of the greatest spiritual teachings, these practical, moment-to-moment tools will help you eliminate blocks and live with more ease. They’re powerful, life-changing meditations and principles, modernized and broken down into easy-to-digest techniques to fit your lifestyle.

Throughout the book, I share principles from both A Course in Miracles and Kundalini yoga and meditation. These tools can help you find your connection to your inner strength. When you practice these techniques, fear will melt away, inspiration will spring up, and a sense of peace will set in.” Author Gabrielle Bernstein on what Miracles Now is for.

This is a personal favorite book of mine to use when I don’t know what to use. I flip to a page (usually get a good reality check of an ass kicking) and use the tool provided on the random page I turned to. This one is so filled with knowledge and powerful tools that work! I would recommend it to anyone looking to learn more about mindfulness as well as personal growth.

-The Desire Map, Danielle Laporte

Your bucket list. Quarterly objectives. Strategic plans. Big dreams. Goals. Lots of goals and plans to achieve those goals—no matter what. Except …

You’re not chasing the goal itself, you’re actually chasing the feeling that you hope achieving that goal will give you.

Which means we have the procedures of achievement upside down. We go after the stuff we want to have, get, or accomplish, and we hope that we’ll be fulfilled when we get there. It’s backwards. And it’s burning us out.

So what if you first got clear on how you actually wanted to feel in your life, and then created some “Goals with Soul”?”” -An excerpt from of what The Desire Map is about.

I personally own this book as well. Who doesn’t want mindful and intentional goals? This one is perfect to accompany and amplify your New Year’s intentions.

-The Little Book of Mindfulness, Patricia Collard

Dr Patrizia Collard is a psychotherapist, mindfulness teacher, stress management consultant and lecturer in psychotherapy at the University of East London. Her books include Journey into Mindfulness, Mindfulness-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Dummies and Awakening the Compassionate Mind (2014).

Dr Collard’s wide range of approaches and methodologies includes mindfulness-based cognitive behavioral therapy, rational emotive behavior therapy, core energy management, existential therapy, drama therapy, yoga and meditation, relaxation, and self-hypnosis.” – From about the author.

If you just don’t know where to start, and want to start small and explore what mindfulness consists of and what a mindfulness practice may look like for you. This book is the perfect taste of what mindfulness is.

Important Things To Know ~

  1. It is a practice for a reason – It will not be perfect, and the only constant is change. Allow yourself space to play and learn and be open and flexible with your practice. What it is and what it becomes will always be changing to help you grow further.
  2. Mindfulness can be different than you imagined or expected – And that is okay! Again, be open, be gentle with yourself, and just see where the ride takes you. It is beyond worth it along the journey as you keep working. Letting go of comparison to a friend or relative’s experiences and practices is super important too.
  3. Your practice will grow and deepen gradually – Let it be natural. Do not force things, do not rush things. Your persistence will create the understanding and awareness you need to grow and deepen as you learn and refine your practices.

I wish you the most luck and success on your journey and I hope the information provided here today can carry you along your journey as smoothly as possible!
Happy growing & learning!

2017 Magical Manifesting Diary: for Free Flowing Adventures // Book Review

2017 Magical Manifesting Diary: for Free Flowing Adventures // Book Review

I have an affinity for New Year’s, I adore New Year’s with a passion and find it’s energy refreshingly lovely. So, when Shan Cox, the designer of the 2017 Magical Manifesting Diary, reached out and asked if I would use her book and share it if I enjoyed it I jumped with excitement… Because if you know anything about me, you know that New Year’s preparations are one of my favorite things. It’s a practice that raises me , excites me about my goals, and motivates me to make shit happen.

Onto the review!

I have nothing to hold back, because holy shit I am in love with this book. I received it on the night of a Full Moon when I wasn’t really feeling the Full Moon work I needed to do, but the book ignited some inspiration and I went to work with the first few pages. Let me begin by saying the way this journal was created is beautiful, and while it’s simple it is purely divine.

2017 Magical Manifesting Diary Review from The Spirit & Soul Blog

The layout of the 2017 Magical Manifesting Diary is really well done. It’sfun, clean, and straightforward. It lays out some really clear ways to reconnect with your personal essence, and to manifest that which you desire. The illustrations by Natalie O’brien are the sweetest touch too. All in all I adore this little journal, and while I have only completed a few pages it brings excitement to my routine and practice.

I look forward to seeing how this helps my manifesting process and reporting back to this post on how it did whatever it is going to do. I don’t want to go too far into detail and spoil anything, but I have added a few photos of the diary below that show what it’s about and how you can play with it.

If you’d like to order The 2017 Magical Manifesting Diary for yourself or a loved one, you can do so with this link. I also have a VIP discount code for you! If you’re purchasing the ECO version, use the code VIPDIARY, and for the standard print use VIPDIARYSTD.

Why Now Is The Perfect Time To Start

Why Now Is The Perfect Time To Start

I’ve covered this topic before, some of our day one reader’s may notice. This time though, I am coming at it from a different angle. There is always a perfect time to start something and I am here to tell you that whatever it is, the perfect time to start it is now. I understand how this concept can be confusing, I can understand how many of the ego’s out there will try and talk you into the contrary, and I understand why Resistance would make itself known when you try to own this practice.

The blocks like to come out swinging and ‘strong’ when we come upon simple truths such as this one. Recognizing how these blocks show up when you stumble upon something that feels so right and life-giving is one of the most important ways to break through them. Because when you see how they arise, not out of strength or reason, but out of fear of the unknown, you gain further reasoning to practice and let go of the negative thought patterns.

Why Now Is The Best Time To Start from The Spirit & Soul Blog

Now with that bit of mindfulness insight, let’s talk about what we’re here for — Why is now the perfect time to start?

It doesn’t matter what you are starting, Now is the perfect time to do it and I’ll tell you why. Because right now, this very moment is supporting you. Meaning, whatever is supposed to happen is going to happen if you start. So whether you start now or in 5 years, it will be what it needs to be.

The Now is supporting you in this moment and each next fleeting one. This doesn’t mean it will be all pleasant or exactly how you wanted it to be, but it will be what you need it to be in the ‘Divine Plan’. To add to that, I invite you to remember that Now is the only time there is. There is no tomorrow. There is no ‘when all  of these things align one day’,  because there is only this day, only this moment.

We can never tell what the future will hold. We can have ideas, desires, intentions, hypotheses and none of these things are solidified knowing. What we do know 100% truthfully and wholeheartedly is this moment. The only thing we have control of is this moment and what we choose to make of it.

Surely, in the long run you could say this means we create our futures and outcomes of things, which is true to an extent. When you pull back and see it as the big picture though, the only truth left is that we created each present moment, and all we controlled was the Now.

You can start and restart as many times as you need within the Now as well. Which you will need. You will need to commit and recommit, devote and redevote yourself to your project/relationship/adventure/book/etc. more than you may think. You will set and reset intentions, create and create and create.

The most important thing to remember is if you’ve got something in you, it has to be created. Please do not stutter its creation by waiting for things to align in the way you think will work. Just start and it will all fall into its divine place.

To quote the words of the recent Gilmore Girls Revival, “It’s Never or Now.”

Make your magic and put it out into the world.
