Why Exploring Your Shadow Is Necessary + How You Can Do It

Why Exploring Your Shadow Is Necessary + How You Can Do It

What would you think if I told you that your Shadow(s) are one of your greatest gifts in life? If you think that statement is crazy, I would like to prove you wrong in this blog. I believe our society has become too afraid of our own pains and darknesses in life, when if we would look at them with the right perception we would see that these pains, darknesses, and shadows are merely abundant opportunities waiting on us to play.

Yes, I said play. Because you can definitely play in darkness. It may not be as pleasant as playing in light may feel, however you can bring the intention of play into your darkness and experience a much different process of growth and expansion. Which is exactly what this post is going to be about. Our shadow(s), darkness, and pain(s), are our biggest gifts in life because they are opportunities for serious expansion and growth.

Also, healing cannot occur unless we work with (notice: not sit with/in) our shadow. You cannot live in the light all of the time and be a vibrant healed butterfly every moment of your life. Because this is Life. We have to work with our pains and shadows in certain spaces in our lives because it is time for us to grow, evolve, and expand into our next version of vibrancy and authenticity.

There is a certain amount of life that we have to spend working with our darkness and doing the work we need to do to heal, so that we can be the vibrant healed butterflies that we want to be as much as possible. Our darkness + our shadow selves are deeply valuable gifts in life, when we allow them to be. These experiences, though unpleasant, teach us about the light we seek and how to become it.

So the next question becomes, how can we explore our shadows, darkness, and pains with the least bit of upset as possible? It’s not an easy practice, but it is one of the most powerful in my experience. I have personally found that it starts with a foundation of understanding and awareness. Before you even intentionally work with your shadow, you have to have an awareness that the outcome will be for your highest good, and the only thing that can come from moving through your darkness will be even more light.

You have to understand that everything happens for a reason, and everything happens in divine timing. So if something is coming up for you with your shadow, darkness, or pain, this is a sign that it is time to explore, heal, and grow from whatever is showing up for you to heal for yourself. You will never leave this work without having learned a new lesson, and if you think you did the work but don’t have a lesson as a souvenier, then you’re not done doing the work. There is a brilliant video about this very thing from the equally brilliant Glennon Doyle Melton that you can watch below (it’s a longer one, so make some coffee or tea and take the time to enjoy it, let it speak to your soul and teach you).

I invite you today to see your shadows as opportunities. Pick one, and gently begin to work with it. Bring your light along with you and it won’t feel so dark, scary, or lonely. You choose your destiny, but if you want to get there you have to heal some things along the way. And along that journey know that you are loved and supported in every way.

Why Intention Should Be Your Focus This New Years

Why Intention Should Be Your Focus This New Years

New Years is undoubtedly my favorite time of the year and it breaks my heart to see so many lovely people fail themselves and their goals, so this year I invite you to begin your goals in a different way than before — with Intention. Intention is something I see lacking in our culture often. As a culture of nice things, materialism, and being mostly inauthentic I feel like these are the reasons we fail our own goals and resolutions. Our goals and resolutions often do not even resonate with us. They often don’t have clarity.

So I invite you to look at the resolutions you think you’ll be making this year, and look at why you are making them. Truly, deeply, why are you making these resolutions? What do they serve? Why do you want these things to realize into your life? And then ask yourself the kicker, do these things truly, deeply align with me and my feelings?

Why Intention Should Be Your Focus This New Years

Some things may completely align for you, and some might not. This is where Intention comes into play. The things that align and feel right likely have clear and aligned intentions, while the other goals and resolutions will not. When one begins something with clear concise intentions, they are beginning with power.

When your focus is on intention more than it is on the outcome, there is deep clarity that stems from that focus. And when one can keep their focus on their intentions rather than a possible negativity that may be arising within a goal’s realizing, that persons focus on their intentions can consistently inspire them and  motivate them by purpose, rather than the material thing itself.

Intention is such a simple perspective switch that can invoke so much power into a manifestation or realization of something. That little switch in perspective can make or break how smooth and sweet or rough and sweaty the journey is of creating and achieving something. Danielle Laporte’s book The Desire Map is a fabulous resource and tool for any who need help setting intentional and aligned goals/resolutions.

Happy Intentional goal setting!

Why Now Is The Perfect Time To Start

Why Now Is The Perfect Time To Start

I’ve covered this topic before, some of our day one reader’s may notice. This time though, I am coming at it from a different angle. There is always a perfect time to start something and I am here to tell you that whatever it is, the perfect time to start it is now. I understand how this concept can be confusing, I can understand how many of the ego’s out there will try and talk you into the contrary, and I understand why Resistance would make itself known when you try to own this practice.

The blocks like to come out swinging and ‘strong’ when we come upon simple truths such as this one. Recognizing how these blocks show up when you stumble upon something that feels so right and life-giving is one of the most important ways to break through them. Because when you see how they arise, not out of strength or reason, but out of fear of the unknown, you gain further reasoning to practice and let go of the negative thought patterns.

Why Now Is The Best Time To Start from The Spirit & Soul Blog

Now with that bit of mindfulness insight, let’s talk about what we’re here for — Why is now the perfect time to start?

It doesn’t matter what you are starting, Now is the perfect time to do it and I’ll tell you why. Because right now, this very moment is supporting you. Meaning, whatever is supposed to happen is going to happen if you start. So whether you start now or in 5 years, it will be what it needs to be.

The Now is supporting you in this moment and each next fleeting one. This doesn’t mean it will be all pleasant or exactly how you wanted it to be, but it will be what you need it to be in the ‘Divine Plan’. To add to that, I invite you to remember that Now is the only time there is. There is no tomorrow. There is no ‘when all  of these things align one day’,  because there is only this day, only this moment.

We can never tell what the future will hold. We can have ideas, desires, intentions, hypotheses and none of these things are solidified knowing. What we do know 100% truthfully and wholeheartedly is this moment. The only thing we have control of is this moment and what we choose to make of it.

Surely, in the long run you could say this means we create our futures and outcomes of things, which is true to an extent. When you pull back and see it as the big picture though, the only truth left is that we created each present moment, and all we controlled was the Now.

You can start and restart as many times as you need within the Now as well. Which you will need. You will need to commit and recommit, devote and redevote yourself to your project/relationship/adventure/book/etc. more than you may think. You will set and reset intentions, create and create and create.

The most important thing to remember is if you’ve got something in you, it has to be created. Please do not stutter its creation by waiting for things to align in the way you think will work. Just start and it will all fall into its divine place.

To quote the words of the recent Gilmore Girls Revival, “It’s Never or Now.”

Make your magic and put it out into the world.

A Lil’ Update About The Gentle Reminder Series // Mantra Manifesto

A Lil’ Update About The Gentle Reminder Series // Mantra Manifesto

Hello dear readers!

We’ve got a little update about the Gentle Reminder series. This coming Monday, December 5th, the Gentle Reminder series will take on a new name — The Mantra Manifesto.

While I hold gentle reminders near and dear to my heart, I have also found that other artists and writers use this term much more freely and fluidly. As well as other writers branding their own Gentle Reminder projects. I think this is a beautiful thing, and I adore the authors that are pursuing their projects.

Introducing The Mantra Manifesto Project from The Spirit & Soul Blog

I’ve had a feeling for a while that my Gentle Reminder series needed to change, and the only reason I didn’t change it was because I wasn’t sure what else it was supposed to be. Well, recently I have come to recognize my love of a good manifesto and with further observation and following of the little hints I was getting I decided that is what the Gentle Reminders needed to become.

And here we are transitioning into the Mantra Manifesto. I think this project title holds so much more power and abundance. It feels more open and purposeful. The mantra is soft and fluid, while the manifesto is intentional, purposeful, and driving.

This change in project title feels and sounds better to me as the author. It feels way more aligned, and I didn’t really know how far off it was in the first place. I hope you enjoy the new and improved and can welcome this shift with open arms.

I would love to hear your thoughts on the change, so feel free to sound off below!
