Working with healing stones and the Chakras is a wonderful way to keep ourselves aligned and balanced, as well as keeping our Chakras activated. But what is a healing crystal? What is a Chakra? How does this practice work? “Heyyy.. wait… I’m not into this spiritual ‘woo-woo’ shit!” Don’t you worry! We’ll keep it simple and factual. There are no spiritual beliefs or requirements necessary to help the wellbeing of your mind, body, and spirit. Now, let’s get into it.
CHAKRAS —
There are 7 main chakras connected to our body. These chakras can tell us alot about what we’re going through and what may need working on. The oldest written beliefs of the chakra system dates back to India in 1500-500 B.C. and we are coming to understand these systems more and more as time goes on.
So what is a Chakra?
Chakras are energy centers located at different points of our body. These energy centers are correlated with different aspects of the mental and physical body and the way they work hold powerful insight. Depending on the Chakra and what it stands for, a chakra being out of balance, or un-activated, can tell quite a bit about what needs to be worked on for each person. Below is an infographic from Mindvalley Academy Blog that will tell you what chakras are what, and where they are within the Auric Field. What is a Healing Crystal?
They’re rocks. Yes. BUT THEY ARE ALSO MORE THAN THAT TOO, OKAY. A healing crystal or stone is a naturally formed rock, crystal, or mineral, commonly mined all over the planet that encompasses healing vibrations. Stop that thought right there. I know that thought, “Rocks don’t vibrate. How does a vibration help me? Rocks don’t encompass energy!” Yes. They do. What we refer to as energy is scientifically a vibrational frequency, everything has one, even at an incredibly minute scale. Just like you and me, you know, humans, the earth and plants, and yes rocks too all have a vibrational frequency. An energy. These stones have been used since ancient times to assist in rituals and the stone holder’s personal vibrational frequency being balanced. Egyptians were the most common ancients that used these stones in their day to day lives. They made amulets for all kinds of purposes with many different stones. Energy Muse has a fantastic article covering the historical uses of healing crystals and stones (linked above).
So how can I work with stones and my chakras?
There are lots of different ways to use healing stones with our chakras to keep alignment + balance. The most beneficial is combining the healing properties of a stone with the correlated Chakra meaning. However, that can be a lot of information for one to remember so to start you can simply match the color of a crystal you’re drawn to with the matching chakra color. If you’re having trouble expressing your thoughts and feelings properly (throat chakra) and you’re drawn to a Sodalite stone, keep the Sodalite near you (in your pocket, your bra, wear a necklace, etc.) to help aid your expression.
How do I know what stone I need?
Whatever you’re drawn to is what you’re in need of. It’s truly as simple as that. Some are sensitive to energies of the stones, so a crystal may feel quite warm or quite cold in your hand which would tell you which stone specifically you’re needing. If you have the knowledge of your chakras and are attuned with your chakras you can pick a certain chakra you’d like to work with and a stone of that chakra color that you are drawn to, or you would know what is out of balance and you can find the right stone for you based on what you’re looking to balance. Also, if you don’t like a crystal or stone that signifies that you actually need to work with that specific stone. Because your body or ego is disliking it, that signifies that you have an energetic or mental block that needs to be worked through, and the stone you found a dislike for can help you with that.
